Northumberland College makes a first
Northumberland College has become the first college in the country to become an MOT approved Test Centre.
The College’s state-of-the-art motor vehicle workshop, based at its Ashington campus on College road has been approved by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), for its latest commercial venture in carrying out MOT testing, servicing and fast-fit repairs.
The centre is open to members of the public with all servicing being carried out by a fully qualified technician at competitive prices.
This new venture also allows motor vehicle students to train within a real working environment and develop a range of employability skills.
Muhsin Jumaa, academy director for engineering, renewables, STEM and construction said, ‘We are proud of our new motor vehicle workshop. The facility is equipped with the latest technology and is managed by highly qualified motor vehicle engineers.
‘As well as our ability to offer members of the public a good service we have made sure the facility offers our learners a great learning environment and prepares them to the industry using the latest technology.’
Muhsin added, ‘This is central to the college’s work and this latest addition to our portfolio of real working environments is going to help ensure that our track record of securing positive outcomes for our students continues.’
