Government backs autonomous development
The government has announced a £390m investment in the development of low emission and autonomous vehicles.
Chancellor Philip Hammond also announced support for electric vehicle infrastructure in his first Autumn Budget.
‘Reliable transport networks are essential to growth and productivity,’ he said, adding that additional funding will ‘build on our competitive advantage in low emission vehicles and the development of connected autonomous vehicles.’
The Chancellor also announced a 100 per cent first-year capital allowance for the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Just over three per cent of cars sold in Britain last year were alternative fuel models but the uptake is on the increase and sales have risen 23 per cent so far this year.
