Connected tools on the way

Connected tools helping to minimise mistakes and speed up processes will be available from the autumn.

Bosch Power Tools says it will launch seven products later this year which can connect to smartphones via Bluetooth, automatically transferring measuring values and specifications to rule out errors.

A combi laser, two screwdrivers, two combi drills, an angle grinder and a workplace light will be released to join a connected portfolio already including two laser measures and a thermo detector.

Speaking at the Bosch Blue Innovation Summit, senior vice president of professional tools for industrialized markets at Bosch Power Tools Ralph Dammertz said, ‘The construction and trade sectors are under extreme pressure due to the continuous demands for high planning and execution quality. It is here that our connected products and services for professionals are being used: by linking a smartphone to a tool, tradespeople can optimize their work processes and rule out errors such as those caused by the manual transfer of measuring values.’

Another function of connected tools will be a cloud-based inventory system called TrackMyTools, designed to help companies manage and locate their working equipment via localization data.

Ralph said, ‘We are convinced that we will be able to continue offering tradespeople better solutions in the future which, through networking, will provide more added value – from the individual configuration through to remote diagnosis.’

Bosch has already introduced lithium-ion batteries in power tools, and is also the world’s first supplier to enable inductive energy transfer to be used with cordless tools. In February it launched the GEN 230V-1500 Professional mobile socket, which stores up to 1,650 watt hours of energy and provides a constant output of 1,500 watts without a mains supply, and this autumn will release the GBA 18V 6,3 Ah EneRacer Professional, which will increase available power in a compact battery.

Martina Ehrmann, vice president Europe and Asia Pacific for professional tools, said, ‘The professional has the expertise – we provide them with the right products and services to optimally use this expertise and thus to perform their activities as efficiently as possible. For us, ‘User Experience’ means that we bundle together our expertise and that of the professionals to achieve a common purpose – optimum work results and maximum productivity.’
