Audi’s electric focus
Audi is aiming to have three electric car models by 2020 and expects electric vehicles to account for up to 30% of sales by 2025. It’s also setting up a subsidiary to concentrate on developing an autonomous car.
Audi’s electric focus is part of the company’s strategic repositioning following the emissions scandal at Volkswagen, its parent company.
Speaking to German newspaper Heilbronner Stimme, chief executive Rupert Stadler said the group will focus more resources on electric cars, digital services and autonomous driving. He said Audi’s electric vehicle portfolio would also include small vehicles in the A-segment.
Meanwhile, Audi will also establish a subsidiary called SDS Company to develop an autonomous car, but says it’s still looking for joint venture partners who would help with the technology.
Rupert said, ‘This is about a robot car that may not even need a steering wheel or pedals, so it’s ideal for urban traffic.’
