Audi R8 in Crewe’s control

Swansway Accident Repair Centre in Crewe has been named Audi UK’s specialist repair centre for its Audi R8 supercar following an £80,000 investment.

With one of only five technicians in the world trained by Audi in Germany to work on the supercar, 13% of which is constructed from carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP), Swansway will now coordinate every Audi R8 repair in the UK.

Swansway group director David Smyth said, ‘The new Audi R8 is a real leap forward in terms of construction; the introduction of CFRP as a major construction component brings with it the need for very specialist technicians to undertake the repairs.

‘Our Swansway Accident repair Centre has one of only five technicians in the world who’ve been trained by Audi in Germany. Martin Smith is qualified and trained to use the latest ultrasound scanning technology which is needed to discern whether the integrity of the CFRP has been damaged.’

Martin said, ‘It’s a real thrill to be one of only five CFRP trained technicians in the world, I’m looking forward to the challenge and the responsibility or working on the new Audi R8 supercar.’

Franco Iannotta, paint and body technical manager for VWG UK, added, ‘Due to the safety critical location of the CFRP content in the all new Audi R8, body repair work on the car must only be undertaken by an Audi Approved CFRP technician.’
