Aston Martin gets electric buzz

Aston Martin has pooled talents with Chinese electronics group LeEco to jointly develop its first electric vehicle.

Based on its Rapide S model, with other electric vehicles expected to be developed thereafter, the model will be built in Gaydon, England, and is expected to come to market in 2018.

Speaking at a news conference in Frankfurt, Aston Martin’s chief executive Andy Palmer said, ‘It brings Aston Martin’s electric car project forward.’

Lei Ding, co-founder of LeEco’s auto division, said, ‘In China we have around 300 million people who visit our website. We could advertise the Aston Martin for free. And we can use celebrities to promote our vehicle. This is the way we do business.’
