Vandals damage £1m worth of cars

CCTV Footage has emerged of two hooded vandals causing damage to vehicles that have a value of over £1 million at a bodyshop in Kent.

The vandalism took place at Automotive Repair Systems, a SMART repair centre in Orpington, Kent. Security footage shows the culprits keying three of the cars, however the vandals went on to damage 20 cars in total – including four Range Rovers, six Mercedes, four Audis, and a Porsche.

Altogether they carried out around £40,000 worth of damaged and the incident took place at 11pm on Saturday 26 September. The footage shows the vandals casually walking between the cars whilst keying them and it is thought that they used a screwdriver to cause the costly damage to the paintwork.

The damage was only discovered after an employee walked past the cars the following morning. All of the cars were parked outside the bodyshop awaiting work to be carried out.
Andy Patterson, who owns the repair centre said that customers had been ‘fantastic, brilliant and understanding.’

‘We’ve increased security, it’s a 24 hours operation, we have a security guard and we’ve upgraded the CCTV – the site will never been unmanned again.’

Police are currently investigating the incident and detectives are appealing for witnesses in the hope that the vandals can be identified.
