UK engine output pushes forward
UK engine output poised to push forward with high tech, low emission powertrains
• Engine production steady in 2015 despite dip in April volumes.
• Strong export demand from Europe as market continues recovery.
• Billion pound investments in UK engine manufacturing to be realised in coming months.
‘Engine manufacturing will play an increasingly important role in the UK automotive sector in the future,’ said Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive. ‘More than £1bn has been invested by manufacturers in building the next generation of new low-emission Euro-6 petrol and diesel engines in British plants, and we anticipate this will lead to increased output as these investments are realised.’
