TEROSON HELP PREMIER PANELS WIN RESTORATION AWARD
Farnham-based Premier Panels Skills Ltd, deployed a host of TEROSON bonding, sealing, coating and reinforcing products from Henkel to help it win the Body & Paint Award in the Porsche Classic Restoration Competition 2014. At a showcase award ceremony held at Brands Hatch towards the end of last year, the prize was presented by none other than Dr Wolfgang Porsche himself in recognition of the company’s efforts in restoring a 911 (964) 3.6 Targa.
Around two years ago, Porsche Cars GB announced details of a competition open to its 15 recommended body repairers in England and Scotland. To celebrate 40 years of Turbo and Targa Porsches and, in conjunction with their dealership partners, the recommended repairers set about restoring Porsche Turbo and Targa models (older than 15 years) to demonstrate skills, heritage and Porsche passion.
To also celebrate 25 years of the 964, Premier Panel Skills, the recommended repairer for the Porsche Centres at Guildford and Reading, opted to restore a 964 Targa that was first built in 1990. The task ahead was sure to be arduous. The car had not been used for three years, would not start and the brake pedal went straight to the floor. It had 128,000 miles on the clock and the bodywork was poor and rusty – the car had spent much of its life in Newcastle, close to the salty air of the North Sea coastline.
The engine refurbishment was to be carried out by Porsche Centre Guildford, while the body and interior work was to be performed by the Porsche trained technicians at Premier Panel Skills.
To win the Body & Paint Award, the company knew the exterior would have to look pristine, which is why Premier Panels relied on Henkel TEROSON, the driving brand for bonding, sealing, coating, reinforcing and stiffening in automotive body, vehicle repair and maintenance applications. The use of TEROSON materials is mandatory in the repair of Porsche cars.
‘As a company we have alliances with the manufacturers and dealerships rather than the insurance companies,’ states Ian Wallis, Director at Premier Panel Skills. ‘We always repair in line with manufacturers’ specifications and use only their original materials, parts and paints, and this applies to TEROSON products too. If it’s a Porsche, we keep it a Porsche.’
The company has been using TEROSON products since its inception in 1989, and it’s an ethos that has served the business well. Premier Panels is just about to expand into an additional unit in Farnham that will almost double its current floor space.
