Halfords to expand network

Halfords has said it is planning to open between 10 and 15 new Autocentres each year to add to its existing network of 307 outlets.

The servicing and MoT sector of the business seen like-for-like revenues up 4.6% to £75.5m in the 26 weeks to 2 October 2015, while like-for-like sales were up 3.3%.

Halfords chief executive Jill McDonald said the business has achieved eight successive quarters of like-for-like growth.

‘We opened four centres and closed one in the period. We continue to anticipate opening a further 10-15 Autocentres this year,’ she said.

‘We also anticipate fewer centre closures this year compared to last year when we took the opportunity to exit a number of sub-optimal locations.’

‘All of the new centres were opened in the new concept style that has been piloted in Croydon since its launch in October 2014.’

‘In addition we refreshed 11 centres within the existing estate using the key principles of the new concept centre.’

Halfords claims to hold a 1.5% share of the £9bn car servicing and aftercare market.
